Media Guidance Resource

Rachel Romoff <rromoff@...>

Hello All,
Given the recent news and speculation about new and existing package management tools and systems, as well as upcoming key conferences and summits where media may be in attendance, the OpenJS Foundation wanted to provide some guidance as is pertains to media. The intention of this is not meant to drive conversation, rather be used as a resource if these topics come up. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rachel

OpenJS Foundation

Media Guidance and Recommendations

Background

Recently there have been announcements and speculation about both new and existing package management tools and systems.  As with all press cycles, some commentary has been helpful, some less so. The OpenJS Foundation Board of Directors recognizes that package registries are a topic which is quite important to our community of developers and end-users.  We also recognize there is a wide range of opinions over what the registries should or should not do, how they should be run, and what is best for the JavaScript ecosystem in the long run.

Media Guidance

  • If approached by the media, on any topic where they are seeking official statements by the OpenJS Foundation, please direct them to pr@... where an official response can be provided.

  • As a reminder to all participants in OpenJS Foundation projects, please maintain a respectful and open-minded dialogue about any potential polarizing matter.  For example, if you are in a situation where you are asked for an opinion on the state of package registries, please consider the reach and impact of your words and then rely upon facts that you know personally.

  • The goal of the OpenJS Foundation is to ensure that our project communities remain fair and equitable to all people and organizations who participate in them.

  • Additionally, we are not asking you to avoid these topics, as open dialogue is key to collaboration and learning, but please be particularly self-reflective and mindful when they arise.

  • If you have any questions, please reach out to pr@....
